About notebook A. Describe what would the police investigator do to the notebook after the parents have passed the notebook to them? There are several procedures a police investigator would do when he receives the laptop. The investigator then has to take down the details of the laptop such as the number of disk drives, any plugged in removable media, time and date of the laptop from the bios and the current time and date from the investigators clock and such. The laptops make and model, and any significant information of it at that time will have to be taken down to. Photos will have to be taken of the original state of the laptop, including the current screen, if it was on. The next step would be to do a hard reset to the system if it is running an operating system. This prevents any further changes to data or any scripts to run. The removable slots of the laptop would also have to be sealed to prevent tampering. Any removable media will have to be documented and securely kept and tagged, or more commonly known as the bag and tag process. All these would be necessary in court to prove proper procedures, integrit y and help in the documentation and recreation of the scene, helping the investigators to visualize the state of which the laptop was in. As computer components are in question, they should be kept in anti static bags to prevent any damage to them during transit or handling by static electricity. The laptop will then be sent to the lab where images of the different data sources will be created and worked upon. The original will not be touched. B. What hardware resources are needed to analyze a notebook? The hardware resources needed to analyze a notebook would depend on the situation. A laptop or desktop can be used on site or in the lab. The laptop or desktop would have to be equipped with a hard disk that is large enough to contain the exact image of the laptops drives and removable media. A write blocker would also be needed to ensure no writing is done to the data during image creation. To assist in the creation, a Live CD can be used to boot up the suspects laptop, typically a small sized Linux distribution. IDE cables, adapters, crossover cables, fire-wire cables and bays are all common hardware for data connection. Additional tools would be torchlight for use in dark areas, gloves to prevent physical evidence tampering and a log form to log all activities done. C. Compare the architectural hardware differences between a notebook and a desktop computer, along with the different tools or equipment that might be needed to perform a forensic image acquisition. There are several architectural differences between a notebook and a desktop computer. The most significant would be the IDE interface. A laptop would use a small IDE connectors than a desktop, although more recent laptops could be using the SATA connections which would be similar. However, laptops could also have soldered on connections, especially if it is using a solid state drive(SSD). Certain laptops which are smaller in size, such as net-books might not have certain ports or means of data storage such as fire-wire ports, USB ports or even CD-ROM drives. In fact, most modern day laptops do not even have a floppy drive. The forensic investigator would then have to plug in an external drive to the IDE ports or USB ports externally. Although with recent technology, it would be possible to boot from a boot-able USB drive, eliminating the need for a CD-ROM drive or floppy drive. D. Base on the scenario, decide whether you want to use more than one tool to create the image, write a brief outline on the choice of tool. I can use a Live CD such as Backtrack 2, SANS Forensic Workstation or even any Linux distribution to create the image with the dd command. # dd if=/dev/hda conv=sync,noerror bs=64K | gzip -c > /mnt/sda1/hda.img.gz I can then restore the image into any disks by unzipping and using dd to restore. # gunzip -c /mnt/sda1/hda.img.gz | dd of=/dev/hda conv=sync,noerror bs=64K The disk information should also be stored by using fdisk command and piping to a text or info file. # fdisk -l /dev/hda > /mnt/sda1/hda_fdisk.info The advantage of using DD in forensics is that it will create an image of the whole disk, including the unused blocks. It is error free, and easy to do with any Linux distribution. E. What additional evidence could you look for at the victims home or school to obtain clues about her whereabouts? The victims room would be the most important place to search. Additional evidence such as her diary, hand phone, if available, and any books or paper that she wrote in. Her email and any personal sites which hold data online such as Facebook can help in the case. F. Explain what method would be used to preserve the integrity of the evidence obtain, and why the importance of obtaining the data from this method. A hash of the original image from the laptop and any file used should be created. Using an MD5 or SHA1 hash would be advised and recognized in court. The concept of hashing is that no two data objects can have the same hash, and thus if the hash is changed, the data has been compromised. By doing hashing on the original data, the forensic investigator can tell the court that the evidence was not tampered with and anything found was there from the start. Typically, hashing would be done before and after duplication of the disk image to ensure that the disk is exactly the same. G. Determine which file(s) have bad extension and further examine the file headers of these file(s) using a hex editor. Why is it important to carry out such procedure that it may help the team in solving the case? The file headers contain information that help the operating system to identify what kind of file it is. File headers are often corrupted or changed on purpose to hide the true identity of the file. If this is overlooked, crucial documents could be missed and identified as other types of unrelated documents. Secondly, the file headers could be corrupted to prevent reading of the file and will have to be further examined to find out the content.

Critical Lense

Thomas De Quincey once said â€Å" all that is literature seeks to communicate power. † An author communicates a form of power to others through his/her works. Every piece of literature carries a strong message. These messages can open a person’s eyes and mind to a new perspective. It can also point out things that have repeated throughout history, like discrimination and hatred towards a certain race or what love can do for people. These messages could show what most people don’t see. Literature works such as To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, and A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, have a very strong message underneath. In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee is a great novel about discrimination and injustice towards a certain race. This is a great novel about a particular trial, where Atticus Finch, a good lawyer, defends Tom Robinson, whose being accused of raping a young white girl. Tom Robinson is a black man, who has done nothing wrong but is being accused of raping someone just because of his skin color. It did not matter what the black man said back than. Whatever the white person said was always â€Å"right†. One of the themes for this book is the existence of social inequality. The social status of Maycomb was very complicated. At the top you had the Finches, than the Cunninghams, than the Ewells, which were considered white trash. But all the way below the Ewells were the blacks. As you can see, the blacks were below the white trash, they were at the very bottom of the social ladder. This really did effect the society in Maycomb. It divided people up into certain groups. Since the Ewells were above the blacks, it gave them the power to persecute Tom Robinson, an innocent black man. A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, is a story about two women and their lives in Afghanistan. These two women with different ideas about life are brought together by war and loss. As they go through all the dangers that life has brought upon them, they create a strong relationship. They create a mother-daughter and kind of sisters bond. Their abusive husband and the dangerous streets of Kabul have brought them together. This book shows how someone’s love for her family can move this person to shocking self-sacrifice. And the key to surviving all of this is love. Through the theme of female bonds, you can see what the bond of love can do for a women. The efforts of their husband and the government to keep women from having power as much as possible does not work. They form great, strong bonds that give them confidence and strength to fight back. Laila and Miriam form this strong bond together. They both have support in one another. Towards the end, Miriam finally had the strength to fight Rasheed. She did not get this from herself, but from the confidence and love from Laila. As you can see, both of these great novels have a strong message underneath. One of the messages is that social inequality does exist and does destroy people’s lives. The other message is that bonds can give people strength and confidence, which gives them the ability to step up. Love is they key survival of these bonds. Women forms these bonds and have each other’s support and love to give them strength to do more in their life and also to self-sacrifice. Both of these messages have opened people’s eyes to new point of views.

Character Analysis “I Stand Here ironing”

What society doesn't grasp is the difficulties it is to maintain this character in the struggles of balancing work, parenting, and everyday life to the underprivileged though the narrator did what she could as a parent even with facing all the difficulties and dilemma she came across. The Narrator in â€Å"l Stand Here Ironing† holds a heavy heart of guilt for her lack of involvement for her daughter and the way she turned out, but at the same time she knows she can't hold all the blame. L Stand here Ironing† opens with the narrator being asked to come in and speak about her daughter. We are never told who is asking this, but whoever is seeking Information from the narrator believed that her daughter Emily â€Å"needs alp†. The narrator expresses that Emily is the first of five children. She goes into deeply explaining Emily as â€Å"The first and only one of our five that was beautiful at birth. † (402) our narrator proceeds to tell us that Emily father le ft them therefore languid 2 old.Due to the situation at hand our narrator had to send Emily away to her father's family at a young age. The reasoning was so that she could make enough money to live a somewhat stable life and also have the proper care for her daughter as she worked. Unfortunately the proper care situation wasn't as simple as one loud think. When our narrator placed Emily in a nursery school she expresses to us how unfriendly the location was, but â€Å"It was the only way we could be together, the only way I could hold a Job. (404) Right here is one point where we can see things aren't the mothers fault. She wants to be with her daughter and the same time she has to work to provide for her so she has no choice but to take the opportunities that are available to her; even if these opportunities are not what she prefers. When our narrator goes into having her second child Susan we learn that Emily has become delirious with the fever that comes before red measles .. . â€Å"(405). Emily was home alone for the week her mother was in the hospital after giving birth to Susan.When our narrator is home again she expresses that Emily did not start to get much better she explains her as â€Å". . Skeleton thin, not wanting to eat, and night after night she had nightmares. † (405) we learn that Emily calls for her mother when she has these nightmares but from being over and to go back to bed. Finally later as she said is â€Å"too late† she begins to start languid 3 hacking on Emily she hears her cried but Emily doesn't need or I guess you could say want the affection at this point.Later we learn that a clinic talk our narrator into sending Emily away to â€Å"Convalescent home† (405). The clinic basically tell our narrator that she can't give Emily the proper care she need and by doing this she can focus on her new baby. When Emily is sent away they are unable to visit her for the first six weeks because the institute decides when they are able to. Once they start visiting we are taught that this place is not of the homiest places, Emily does not enjoy her ATA, and they kind of treat her as a prisoner.When Emily returns home she refuses food and affection from her mother. Emily over the years has had much neglecting which our narrator does understand, but at the same time she had little options, and was also instructed that being sent away was the best for her daughter. To wrap things up we can see pretty clearly that our Narrator did in fact love her daughter. Our narrator never intended to neglect Emily from the love and affection she deserved, but she didn't have many options to choose from.

Female Juveniles Are The Most Vulnerable - 927 Words

Female juveniles are known to be the most vulnerable. If they are growing up in poverty or suffering from abuse, their delinquent behavior are often leads to self-destruction. Female juveniles will most likely grow up to join street gangs, drop out of school, or become teenage mothers. Girls are the fastest growing segment of the juvenile justice system with minority females disproportionately represented among delinquent girls; two-thirds are girls of color. The majority have been subjected to some form of emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse (Lowen, 2014). The statistical evidence behind the delinquent behavior of female juvenile is disturbing. Juvenile girls are likely to be criminalizes for their behavior than juvenile boys would in the criminal justice system. The statistical evidence of young female juveniles describes by journalist Linda Lowen. Lowen says young girls who were subjected to many different mental health issues and some form of abuse have often led to delinque nt conduct.
